The Pacific Hedge School
The Pacific Hedge School at Wild Hawthorn is a place to preserve, share and revitalize feminine wisdom traditions.
The concept of Hedge Schools originated in Ireland, when under colonial rule by the British, Irish children were forced to attend British boarding schools designed to indoctrinate them with the dominant religious, political and educational systems and values. As an act of rebellion, communities would meet out on the land, or the ‘hedgerow’, to ensure children continued to learn Irish language, songs, stories, traditions, and ways of being in relationship with nature. It is in this spirit that The Pacific Hedge School seeks to create a space for learning and connection around topics that have been marginalized under dominant systems.
We are particularly interested in:
The portals of birth and death
The psyche and the spirit/soul
Relationship, place and belonging
Herbalism, plant medicine, and working with plants & animals
Land stewardship
Embodiment, intuition, and instinct
Mythology, folktales and fairytales
Magic, ritual and the Otherworld
Non-ordinary states of consciousness
Matriarchal and Indigenous leadership
